The American Dream

In today's society the "American Dream" is to have someone who loves them. Everyone has that desire to be loved, and for most americans, they want a happy family and home. This is why so many dating sites on the internet have been created. Americans want love, support, and a family and when they find someone, they rush into things trying to have this "love". But, this leads too the reason why divorce rates are on the rise.

Another dream that many americans have is to be successful in their life, with anything they want to achieve. The average American's dream is also to have an income and support themselves, and their family if they have one. Even just having a job they love and enjoy would make so many people happy.

If you ask Americans today what their dreams in life would be ~~ love, success, and happiness.

  1. even as a single mother, i didnt think of the American Dream as love. i thought that was interesting. though so many are looking for it, i believe that there is a boom of single parents who are content with knowing they may be doing this life on their own.

  2. Very interesting take on the American Dream. I didn't really think of the American Dream as love. There are so many people that are looking for true love. It can be hard to find. I also agree that many American's want love, support, and a family. I think people also want great friends to fall back on.

  3. I like the idea of Americans searching for "Love". It is romanticized but true enough. I do feel that people are looking to be accepted, loved even, but as the "American Dream" I'm not sure. Happiness comes in all forms, not just from requited love, but from a feeling of success and pride in oneself or family or even friends. It's a nice dream at any rate.

  4. I agree that most people desire to be loved and I must say I am one of them. That being said I feel that that love can come from anyone though. It doesnt have to be a romantic love but it can be love of friends, kids, and family. As e.nielsen said their are many single parents and people that never want kids or to be married in this world but most of those people do have love in there from their friends and family Im sure, at least in most cases. I dont think anyone person wants to live without any one person loving them.

  5. Aleesha, your comments about love were very impressive. I believe if a person puts love first it affords them a greater oppurtunity for being successful because they are more passionatte about people and the career choice thy make. They are more apt to make the changes that will improve an overall picture to make it better for all involved. The American dream life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness could definately be easier obtained when there is "LOVE" as the bottom line. Immigrants used their diverse cultures and values to come together and make our great country the power it is today. The hard work and battles they went through made it easier for us as citizens in todays society. I believe that it is important to always remember those that came before us and to properly pass these values on to those who come after us so they don't lose sight of what is most important.

  6. Some scholars have argued that love, or more accurately compassion, is a basic necessity of human existence, like food, water, sleep. Imagine living an entire life without ever experiencing compassion? Could you survive? There are people in this world who must. It's a heart-breaking truth, but it puts things into perspective.
